Sea Life Flourishes in the Gulf

The Great Oil Spill Panic of 2010 will go down in history as mass hysteria on par with the Dutch tulip bubble.

The catastrophists were wrong (again) about the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. There have been no major fish die-offs. On the contrary, a comprehensive new study says that in some of the most heavily fished areas of the Gulf of Mexico, various forms of sea life, from shrimp to sharks, have seen their populations triple since before the spill. Some species, including shrimp and croaker, did even better.

Even the researchers themselves, however, were surprised by the results. “We expected there to be virtually no fish out there based on all the reports we were getting about the toxicity of the dispersant and the toxicity of the hydrocarbons, and reports that hypoxia [low oxygen] had been created as a result of the oil and dispersant,” says John Valentine, who directed the study. “In every way you can imagine, it should have been a hostile environment for fish and crabs; our collection showed that was not the case.”

How are the news sources going to live with themselves? No doom and gloom? How on earth are they going to get people to tune in and buy their magazines? How about reporting the facts? How about following up on your reports with...more facts? Leave the hyperbole for the soap operas. Kthxbye.

Sign of the times, even rock stars get evicted

A 50-year-old man identified as David Lee Rothe surrendered to SWAT officers at about 1:15 p.m. today after the SWAT team forced its way into his home in the upscale Belleview Acres Park area of southwestern Jefferson County.

Rothe, who had faced foreclosure eviction, had barricaded himself in the home and refused to come out, according to Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

However, Techmeyer said that once the SWAT team made contact with Rothe in the home he offered no resistance.

I BET HE DID! Those guys get real serious when they are deployed.

Sorry this isn't the same David Lee Roth that fronted Van Halen, then didn't, then did, then didn't again.

Man Shoots TV Over Bristol Palin Dancing

NOVEMBER 17--Like most Americans, Steven Cowan has been perplexed by Bristol Palin’s curious ability to keep advancing in TV’s "Dancing with the Stars" competition.

However, unlike other viewers, Cowan, 66, allegedly became so enraged by Palin’s success that he actually fired a shotgun round into his television, triggering a 15-hour standoff with Wisconsin cops.

How does she do it? Actually, I don't care. I don't even watch that show. I'm not sure why Mr. Cowan was arrested, it seems like a logical response to reality television.

Note to self: shooting a shotgun at your own TV, in your own home is apparently against the law in Wisconsin. I wonder if he was stone cold sober and didn't threaten to off himself if he would have been taken in?

Hopefully Mr. Cowen will not see this post and take a pot shot at his computer.

Ignorant Dumbasses

A woman called the South Florida's First News Show on radio station 610am WIOD, this morning (Wed. 11-17-10), horrified about what her daughter had been put through.

"She is an insuline depended diabetic who has an isuline pump. She travels regularly in the airport. Today, about 25 minutes ago, she was..the alarm went off she told them she had an insuline pump, they physically groped her, went down her pants, her thighs, and advised her not to wear the insuline pump any more going through security. They advised her to take it off in the future if she didn't want to be groped. She was so upset she called me after she got through security hysterically crying" 

New editors, does your email program have a self correcting dictionary? Why isn't it on?

Nom De Guerre No More

There are many theories on how to effectively secure the nearly 2,000-mile-long border the United States shares with Mexico.

One of the more popular ideas on how to secure the region is through the deployment of troops and creation of a strong military presence along the border. In May, President Obama gave the green light for up to 1,200 National Guard
troops to be assigned to the four southwest border states. In late September, armed troops started trickling in and working alongside U.S. Border Patrol agents, but the ramp up period is a gradual process since it takes a great deal of time to train the soldiers for their new mission.

According to the National Guard Bureau, nearly 1,200 troops are at work on border issues as of Monday: 263 in California, 561 in Arizona, 80 in New Mexico, 284 in Texas and 10 others assigned to border issues at the National Guard Bureau in Virginia. The deployment is expected to last one year although no official end date has been made public.

Finally the National Guard is guarding the nation. We need more of this. I say hire the 1000 border patrol agents and keep the guard down there. I also say put counter sniper teams out there and anyone carrying a weapon when they cross...gets taken out. I know I'm a minority on that last point but we need to send a clear message to the thugs across the border. That message, "we play for keeps" or perhaps "You want some of this? Bring it."

We need to make it very, very, very expensive for them to do business. When they don't want to pay for it anymore it will stop. In our history we have sent troops into Mexico to stop cross border raids. Its time we started again. Can you say drone attacks? I know you can.
