I wonder if the fiancee' wants to revise her statement from yesterday?
...Markoff's fiancée defended him Tuesday, saying "he could not hurt a fly."
Megan McAllister, in an e-mail to ABC television, said Markoff, dubbed a "predator" by a Boston district attorney, is "a beautiful person inside and out" who could not have carried out such crimes.
McAllister said the couple still plan to marry in August.
When asked last year about the security of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Admiral Mike Mullen didn't hesitate: "I'm very comfortable that the nuclear weapons in Pakistan are secure," he said flatly. Asked the same question earlier this month, his answer had changed. "I'm reasonably comfortable," he said, "that the nuclear weapons are secure."
The prospect of turmoil in Pakistan sends shivers up the spines of those U.S. officials charged with keeping tabs on foreign nuclear weapons. Pakistan is thought to possess about 100 — the U.S. isn't sure of the total, and may not know where all of them are. Still, if Pakistan collapses, the U.S. military is primed to enter the country and secure as many of those weapons as it can, according to U.S. officials.
I'm comfortable with that. And hopefully we launch ten or so of them against the "strongholds" the Taliban are using. Collateral damage aside, the world would be a better place. End Islamic fascism.

You cannot negotiate with these fascists.
The move by Taliban-backed militants into the Buner district of northwestern Pakistan, closer than ever to Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, have prompted concerns both within the country and abroad that the nuclear-armed nation of 165 million is on the verge of inexorable collapse.
On Wednesday a local Taliban militia crossed from the Swat Valley - where a February cease-fire allowed the implementation of strict Islamic, or Shari'a, law - into the neighboring Buner district, which is just a few hours drive from Islamabad (65 miles, separated by a mountain range, as the crow flies).
Kill them. Kill them all. They are in a big hurry to meet Allah. Let's arrange the meeting. Pakistan needs to ask for our help IMMEDIATELY or they will be another Afghanistan in 6 months. We could drop a division of Marines on them or the 101st or 82nd and turn the tide in a week. They are massed right now and would be prime for elimination while they are still standing up to fight.
End fascism in all it's forms where you find it.
Portfolio ran an anonymous piece today by a self-described TARP wife lamenting how far she's fallen both socially and monetarily. The article only serves to further the notion that perhaps one of the few silver linings of this financial crisis is to burst the bubble of the TARP wives. Except her bubble hasn't really burst, just punctured with the air slowly leaking out. What's always astonishing about these Wall Street "look how much worse my life is" pieces is that they're written with the belief that people, besides their friends at the country club, will have any sympathy for them whatsoever.
Read the rest of the piece if you want to laugh at how clueless this woman is and then be sad that despite her relative fall her life is still filled with "good problems."
New York Magazine thinks they have sniffed out who the author is: Liz Peek, former New York Sun business writer and wife of CIT Group's Jeffrey Peek.
For a much more revealing piece about how clueless Wall Street husbands are, check out Gabriel Sherman's great piece "The Wail of the 1%"This is a prime example of why you see class warfare back on the horizon. As we, the "little people", try to send our kids to college and live in a neighborhood where we aren't worried about being shot in my easy chair every night, it really pisses me off that people with this kind of wealth think their lives have been ruined. Seriously? They are the parasites that got ahead on the backs of others and have never worked for a effin' thing they have. Get a clue you stupid cow.
A Chinese law enforcement agency has been using a training manual which advises officers on how to use violence without leaving incriminating evidence behind.
"In dealing with the subject, take care to leave no blood on the face, no wounds on the body, and no people in the vicinity," states the manual, entitled Practices of City Administration Enforcement.
The book was reportedly designed as a training guide for the Chengguan, a type of police force that is charged with targeting anyone it feels is disrupting the peace, ridding China's cities of illegal street hawkers and unlicensed taxi cabs, and checking permits.
Of course like everything else in China it was stolen from America. At the bottom of each page you will see, "Copyright 1991, Los Angeles Police Department."

Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse, the sole surviving Somali pirate from the hostage-taking of an American ship captain, was to appear in a courtroom Tuesday on what were expected to be piracy and hostage-taking charges. In my opinion we did this guy a HUGE favor. We are going to try him in the US. Imprison him in the US. And feed and educate this guy for the rest of his life in our prisons. Imagine what would happen to this guy if he were turned over to Ethiopian authorities. Worked and starved to death in their 19th century prison system. And mark my words a team of lawyers will work to get this guy released because, "the big bad United States unlawfully is imprisoning this foreign national".
Earth Day may fall later this week, but as far as former NASA astronaut Edgar Mitchell and other UFO enthusiasts are concerned, the real story is happening elsewhere.
Mitchell, who was part of the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, asserted Monday that extraterrestrial life exists, and that the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and other governments.
He delivered his remarks during an appearance at the National Press Club following the conclusion of the fifth annual X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.
Mankind has long wondered if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.
I've said this a dozen times. I want to believe. I guess they are waiting until we can reach light speed.

SAN FRANCISCO -Sun Microsystems Inc.'s scramble to find a suitor landed the slumping server and software maker in the arms of Oracle Corp., which agreed to pay $7.4 billion in cash for Sun in a startling marriage that would transform Silicon Valley and the computing industry.
The acquisition announced Monday illustrates how some of the biggest and richest technology companies are racing to become one-stop shops for corporate and government customers. By picking up Sun and expanding heavily into hardware, Oracle would look much more like the company it beat out for Sun — IBM Corp., which appears unlikely to re-enter the bidding.Oracle picks up IBMs leavings. I wonder what this will mean for the server company?
LAS VEGAS – Miss North Carolina USA Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA 2009 on Sunday, beating out 50 other beauty queens in the live pageant televised from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
The 22-year-old aspiring motivational speaker and entertainer from Wilmington edged out first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, of San Diego, and second runner-up Miss Arizona USA Alicia-Monique Blanco, of Phoenix.
A tad bit too skinny if you ask me.
