R.I.P. Pontiac and Saturn

Jalopnik sources tell them GM's viability plan set to be released at 5:00PM Tuesday, will kill the Saturn brand by 2011. Pontiac will also go away as a division. But the nameplate will sorta live on. So basically, what we've heard is the brand meant to compete against the foreign brands is dead — Saturn goes away in 2011.

GM claims that Saturn, Hummer, Saab have created a 1.1 billion dollar loss. I would love to know how much of that loss was Saturn. I know they have a very loyal brand following. I'm pretty sure they could survive if they didn't have the albatros of GM hanging around their neck.

Bummer Hummer (those vehicles suck), kill Saab (or sell, or reorganize), kill GMC (every vehicles they make is just a rebadged Chevrolet anyway), and if you must kill Pontiac. Basically you need to kill any thing that makes a duplicate of another car. You don't need duplicate pickup trucks, you don't need Tahoe, Suburban, Denali, Yukon, SRX, 9-7X. One of those would take care of the entire market need. It's just stupid to produce 18 models of the the same vehicle across 8 brands.

So surf the Pontiac boards and watch the Firebird fans cry their collective tears for a marginal so-called "muscle car" that is just a restyled Camaro that you can order with a V6.

You can also watch the Saturn die-hards save their vehicles with a specialty company that continues to make parts for them for at least 15 years. Land Rover fans have at least 6 or 7 companies that still make parts for their old models. I know it will work if someone steps up to do it.

So if you were considering buying a Saturn...whatever.....rethink.

Retards. That is disappointing. I really like my Saturn, it's a great little car and has been just awesome for us.

IMO GM needs to keep Chevy, Buick and Saturn and scrap the others.

That's why Ford is still kicking. They really only have Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. A couple others but they spun those off or are going to, i.e. Volvo.

I meant Chevy, Cadillac and Saturn.
