Follow-up: Christie Wins!(?)

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - Christie Brinkley's lurid divorce trial came to an abrupt end Thursday when lawyers for the former supermodel and her fourth husband reached an out-of-court settlement that gives her custody of their two children.
Brinkley will give her estranged husband, architect Peter Cook, $2.1 million but will keep 18 properties in the Hamptons. Cook also will get time with the children.
I would have settled BEFORE everyone learned I had to pay for sex on the internet.

Baby Boomers Got the Blues

The baby boomers -- that prominent group of middle-agers whose massive numbers invite never-ending dissection and speculation -- have once again spoken. What they have said is, " Waaaaaahhh."
The results validate any member of the Greatest Generation who ever looked at his or her offspring and sadly thought, "soft." Simply put, boomers are a bunch of . . . whiners.
So what is their deal?
"I'll tell you," says Mary Furlong, who runs a California consulting firm helping companies reach out to boomer consumers, and who fits the demographic herself. "Basically, it's because we were always on the front end of opportunity and optimism until now."
Being the youngest of the boomer generation, I can feel this pain. I do think my kids are "soft". And my aging mothers (bio and adoptive) are collectively driving me slowly insane.
But I think those of you that have met me would say I'm a happy guy. Happy with a tinge of it's going to get worse, then I'm gonna die.
Basically if you whippersnappers will stop driving up the cost on everything, I'd be a lot happier!!!111

Iran rattles their photoshop skills, er uh, sabers

As news spread across the world of Iran’s provocative missile tests, so did an image of four missiles heading skyward in unison. Unfortunately, it appeared to contain one too many missiles, a point that had not emerged before the photo appeared on the front pages of The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, The Chicago Tribune and several other newspapers as well as on BBC News, MSNBC, Yahoo! News, and many other major news Web sites.
Does Iran’s state media use Photoshop? The charge has been leveled before. So far, though, it can’t be said with any certainty whether there is any official Iranian involvement in this instance. Sepah apparently published the three-missile version of the image today without further explanation.
Having grown up in the Cold War era, I am accustom to the adversaries of the United States doctoring photos and producing voluminous amounts of propaganda.

WTF? Who said he could wear that hat?

Any popstar worth their salt knows that to survive in the business, you have to reinvent yourself every so often - and the King of Pop must know that better than any.
But quite what Michael Jackson thinks this look will do for his career is anyone's guess.
As he approaches his 50th birthday next month, the singer's appearance just seems to be getting more and more bizarre.
I guess the fact he is in Vegas would tell us that he is poised to replace Diva Celine Dion. Which makes sense as Michael really needs the money. Headline: America's inbred illiterate red flyover state bible thumping morans are reproducing more quickly than its liberal coast-dwelling co

Parts of the Midwest experienced a modest population resurgence last year as the nation's housing crisis disrupted a long-term migration by Americans to the Sun Belt, a USA TODAY analysis of new Census data shows.
The county where DDDN studios are located, grew 10% in the last 6 years. Keeping pace with the last two decades of 13% growth each decade. Sadly Norman the 3rd largest city in Oklahoma is not the quaint college town it used to be when I moved here in 1984.

U.S. Marines "kill 400 Taliban" in Afghan operation

KABUL (Reuters) - U.S. Marines have killed more than 400 Taliban since they began an operation to seize a district in southern Afghanistan in May, their commander said on Wednesday.
A fighting force of some 2,200 U.S. Marines deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year to make up for shortfalls in troops that Washington failed to persuade other NATO allies to fill.
I say that's a good start. It is amazing that 2,200 Marines can make that big an impact in such a short time.

Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto Flips Bird, Oral Sex, Gang Sign Photos

Miss Washington flips the bird, makes oral sex gang signs for camera - Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto was the second runner-up in this year's Miss America pageant.
TMZ has all the photos AND a video!
Makes me wonder if the generation gap between the people who organized this pageant and the young people who participated is any wider than the generation gap between my generation and the one before it.
I didn't see any "gang signs".

Congressional Approval Falls to Single Digits for First Time Ever

The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.
Last month, 11% of voters gave the legislature good or excellent ratings. Congress has not received higher than a 15% approval rating since the beginning of 2008.
Remember this when you go to the polls in November. Or don't....but I'll remind you anyway.

U.S. wins pissing contest

The Pentagon has moved an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf after Iran warned US ships would come under fire if they attack the country.
A US Navy official speaking on condition of anonymity said Tuesday that the US Naval Forces Central Command moved the USS Abraham Lincoln to the Arabian Sea.
At one time there were only 5 countries that could beat just ONE of our aircraft carriers and it's supporing ships in a war. And we currently have 12 of them. The George H. W. Bush will be the thirteenth.

Foot Watch: Swedish police puzzled by foot in shoe on beach

TOCKHOLM, Sweden - Swedish police said they have found a human foot inside a shoe, which washed up on a beach near one of the country's most popular tourist resorts.
I think the foot is just an over achiever from Canada.

Boo, fuggin' hoo, wait a minute...I'm a high-income family?

Brian and Terri Smith of Deer Park are doing everything they can these days to loosen the grip that high gasoline prices and inflation have on their household budget.
With an annual income north of $100,000, the Smiths in the last month have sold a gas-swilling Lincoln Navigator SUV and hope to sell their three-bedroom house in Deer Park, which is the second house the couple has renovated.
100k income is the mark for a high income family? Since when?
In our hometown at 100K we are middle income. There are much more poorer and a goodly amount richer.
I have learned in all the years I've been earning that you should never live at the extent of your earning.
When I think of high-income, I'm thinking of people in the 200k range and up.

Check out your state's Median Family Income.
According to Wikipedia...
In 2006, the median annual household income was $48,201.00 according to the Census Bureau.[3] The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) was $26,036 in 2006.[4] In 2006, there were approximately 116,011,000 households in the United States. 19.26% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $100,000,[5] 12.3% fell below the federal poverty threshold[6] and the bottom 20% earned less than $19,178.
This statement makes a lot of sense and explains a lot for me...
The 2006 economic survey also found that households in the top two income quintiles, those with an annual household income exceeding $60,000, had a median of two income earners while those in the lower quintiles (2nd and middle quintile) had median of only one income earner per household.
So if the second earner worked they would be at or near the 100k mark. That makes a lot more sense now.

Hot for teacher, Florida Style

Tampa, Florida - The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office has released a series of revealing photos of tattoos on former teacher Stephanie Ragusa.
Ragusa, who taught at Davidsen Middle School, is in the Hillsborough County Jail accused of having sex with two underage students. Sheriff's reports indicate both of those students were able to identify the tattoos on Ragusa's body.
They nailed her by confirming the tattoos she has.

Iraq insists on U.S. withdrawal timetable: official

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq will not accept any security agreement with the United States unless it includes dates for the withdrawal of foreign forces, the government's national security adviser said on Tuesday.
We'll see if they continue to want a timetable

Iran to "hit Tel Aviv, U.S. ships" if attacked

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran will hit Tel Aviv, U.S. shipping in the Gulf and American interests around the world if it is attacked over its disputed nuclear activities, an aide to Iran's Supreme Leader was quoted as saying on Tuesday.
"The first bullet fired by America at Iran will be followed by Iran burning down its vital interests around the globe," the students news agency ISNA quoted Ali Shirazi as saying in a speech to Revolutionary Guards.
Really? Does Iran want to get into a pissing contest?
48 hours after hostilities begin Iran won't have a functioning airfield in their country and zero aircraft capable of offensive action.
Any massed troop build-ups will get to enjoy the "steel rain" that the Revolutionary Guards in Iraq enjoyed back in 1991. I know they'll love it.
48 hours after air superiority we will have most of their command staff eliminated with our UAVs.

A-Rod's wife: Divorce over 'extramarital affairs'

MIAMI - A tumultuous week for Alex Rodriguez, played out in tabloid headlines and carried on the whispers of a connection to Madonna, came to a head Monday when his wife filed for divorce.
"The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," according to her petition for dissolution of marriage, filed in the family division of Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.
So the rumors on the sports blogs are basically true. A-Rod likes the ladies and has regulars in each of the cities he visits. It obvious why the AP would focus on Madonna as the "home wrecker" but they aren't about to report on the 30 other ladies he's tapping.

Record-setting Japanese sailor says up for adventure till 100

TOKYO (AFP) - Record-setting Japanese sailor Kenichi Horie said Sunday he would seek out new adventures until he turns 100, after his world-first solo voyage across the Pacific in a boat propelled by wave power.
The 69-year-old sailor and environmentalist reached waters off the Kii Peninsula in western Japan late Friday, completing a 110-day voyage from Hawaii without a port call.
We can only hope to be half as active as Kenichi Horie when we are 69 years old.

Oil prices tumble more than $5 because (turns Magic Eight Ball) Poppy Harlow wore a read sweater today

Of course they fell, they've got to fall for them to go up again this Thursday.

Post 9/11 dragnet turns up surprises

In the six-and-a-half years that the U.S. government has been fingerprinting insurgents, detainees and ordinary people in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa, hundreds have turned out to share an unexpected background, FBI and military officials said. They have criminal arrest records in the United States.
Get this, civil liberties wacko's "have concerns". Yeah we are totally violating those people's rights. Their right to be unidentified enemies of the United States?

GM mulling thousands of job cuts, sale of brands: report

(Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N) is planning to cut thousands of white-collar jobs and is considering whether it should sell or stop production of more of its brands, The Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.
Both moves are part of a broader re-evaluation of the company's strategy and of its ability to meet an internal projection of returning to profitability in 2010, the people told the paper.
All but the Cadillac and Chevrolet brands, which GM considers core to its business, are undergoing close scrutiny, some other people told the paper.
